the station ... on the longest Heritage Railway in England ... for one of the most perfectly preserved medieval villages in England ... bliss!

Dunster Station

Welcome to Dunster Station.

The West Somerset Railway is Britain's longest 'heritage' railway covering 22.75 miles from Bishops Lydeard through the Quantock Hills and along the Exmoor Coast to Minehead, operating services using both heritage steam and diesel trains.

The railway first opened in 1862 between Taunton and Watchet and was extended from Watchet to Minehead in 1874. The line was closed by British Rail in 1971 but was then reopened in 1976 as a heritage line.

The station, a Grade II listed building,is located one mile from the village of Dunster, which contains many historic buildings. The stone station building and platform is on the south side-west of the line, its imposing design reflects its former status as the station for distinguished visitors to Dunster Castle. It was opened on the 16th July 1874

On the site you can learn more about the history of the station, as well as checking out the timetable and places to stay in the village. We are building up our gallery of interesting photos of Dunster Station over the years together with some of more recent events.
